Five Years

We celebrated our 5th anniversary on Friday, May 27th! Unfortunately, our anniversary fell on one of the busiest work weeks this year for John David! He finally arrived home around 11:00! He did bring Sonic cheese sticks and a chocolate milkshake so we had a mini anniversary date on our couch!

I wasn’t too disappointed on our anniversary since we had a 5th anniversary trip planned! We’ve been talking about and planning this trip since before Paxton was born! We left Paxton with John David’s parents and spent 2 nights without him at the same resort we honeymooned at! {Paxton did just fine and so did I!}

We ate barbeque at the same place we did 5 years before, enjoyed pizza at a local cafe we visited on our honeymoon and went to several quaint stores!

Honestly, the most enjoyable part was sleeping late and not having to be responsible for a very active little fellow who is into everything!

{And don’t you love our matching t-shirts…after 5 years I suppose couples who are still in love start dressing alike! 🙂 We wore these to church on Sunday, they are production team shirts for church that John David designed!}

4th Anniversary

Yesterday we celebrated 4 years of marriage! It’s been a wonderful 4 years full of ups and some downs, full of love, friendship, spending time together and now as a family of 3!

We didn’t make big plans for our anniversary (which is typical John David and Rachel style!) We were originally hoping that one of our sets of parents would come and visit and keep Paxton! They didn’t come, so Paxton stayed with his “local” grandparents, the Claros!!

We left their home around 7:00 and went to a nearby town and had Jersey Mike’s for dinner! I know, it’s not romantic but I’ve been craving Jersey Mike’s for months and didn’t eat it since I was pregnant! I had planned to have a big Jersey Mike sandwich after having Paxton but I didn’t! So, we satisfied my craving last night and it was just wonderful!

After dinner, we went to Lowe’s to pick up stuff for John David to make a cloth diaper sprayer!

When we came out of Lowe’s, we were amazed at how beautiful the moon was! If only we had a long lense, this photo would be much better!

Then we went to Kohl’s so I could exchange 2 sleepers for bigger sizes for our growing boy!

Then we went to McDonald’s for dessert! (When we were dating and first married we loved going to McDonald’s for Sweet Tea and ice cream cones!) I had a wonderful chocolate dipped cone and John David had a sundae.

The Last Weekend

This weekend very well could be the last weekend that we are a family of two! We could be a family of three this time next week!

It’s very exciting and also somewhat sad because we are closing a chapter in our lives and that is our life before children. In May we will celebrate our 4 year anniversary so we’ve had several years to be “newlyweds” and grow in our friendship and love only focusing on each other. We are thrilled to be welcoming our baby into our lives but know that things will never be as they’ve been the past 4 years.

So with that in mind, this weekend we really just savored time spent with each other! We slept in until 10:30 Saturday morning (glorious…thankfully I’m sleeping well still!) We didn’t do too much during the day just enjoyed being together and my amazing husband finished up a project patching a hole that was above our dresser in the master bedroom!

Just last week there were 2 outlet box holes from where the previous owner had mounted a TV! The holes were centered above the mirror. John David and his dad patched it last weekend and Saturday John David sanded it down and painted it! (And then he cleaned all the dust off of everything, vacuumed and organized the room some more…I’m blessed!)

John David also set up the Pack ‘N Play in our room. We’re now prepared for baby to come home and spend the first few weeks (at night) in our room! (We plan for him to sleep in his crib during the day!) It’s exciting to see this in our room and think that in just a few days our tiny baby boy will be here!!

I had to laugh last night when John David looked at me before bed and said, “I think I nested today!” Between taking care of the wall, cleaning the room, putting up the Pack ‘N Play and doing a little cleaning in the basement he did really help feather our nest in preparation for baby!

And I’ve heard about 100 times this weekend, “are you having a contraction?” “is the baby coming?” “hurry up and have the baby!” Daddy is very excited about his son’s arrival…he feels like a kid at Christmas and I just think it’s precious!

We had a lovely Sunday too! Today was my last week to teach Sunday School, I’ll miss my kids but they have excellent new teachers for the remainder of the year which I’m so thankful for! After church we had the Simmerman family over for tacos which was fun and then we spent the afternoon watching TV! We took a walk this evening (hoping to speed up baby’s arrival) and chatted with our neighbors for an hour and a half!

We also spent time with this sweet little puppy dog! We took him on walks, played with him and gave him just a little extra attention since his little world will be rocked in a few days!

We go back to the doctor tomorrow and will see if I’m any further dilated and also make a decision whether or not to induce this week!

Valentine’s Day

We’re don’t typically celebrate Valentine’s Day in any big way! I’m not the flowers, diamonds, and chocolates kind of girl, I know my husband loves me and he doesn’t have to buy me gifts on certain days of the year to prove it!

We do however celebrate in a simple way and have done different things since we’ve been together!

Our first Valentine’s, when we were dating, I went and visited John David and his family in East Tennessee for the weekend! It snowed that weekend and the Saturday night before Valentine’s we went sledding in the pasture at 10:30 at night…wonderful memories! And we had a Valentine’s breakfast at Cracker Barrel before I went back to school! (Cracker Barrel was our first date, so that’s special!)

Our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, we bought an iPod (as an us gift) and I made John David coupons for silly things (that he’s yet to redeem…for some reason when I give homemade coupons as gifts the recipient wants to keep them & not redeem them!)

Last year we set a $5 budget and were quite creative! I bought him a black shirt (on clearance…of course) and he gave me a 12-pack of Sun Drop that he arranged in the shape of a heart! (I love citrusy soft drinks!)

This year we decided on no gifts! However, John David’s mom gave us $20 to go out to eat on and we enjoyed having that money! We had Mexican for lunch yesterday, spending a grand total of $15.50. With the remaining money we went to Sonic yesterday afternoon and John David got an Iced Mocha Latte and I had a small Strawberry Shake, that was only $3.80! We were proud that we had 2 “dates” and $.70 left over!

Last night was pizza night and I made heart shaped Cheese Bread for my sweetie!

As well as a heart shaped pepperoni pizza! (Which was very yummy!)

This morning we went to church and came home to leftover pizza (I love Sunday afternoon leftovers!) Then, we had a wonderful lazy Sunday afternoon with ranch popcorn, chocolate milk, oreos, and TV! We didn’t do a single productive thing which is nice every once in a while!!

And here’s Paxton while we were waiting on the pizza to finish! Baby Paxton is our gift to each other this year! We just can’t wait to finally meet him in 2 months and 1 week!!
